2020 was very much the year of the COVID-19 pandemic. The timing of the lockdowns in Wales meant that our usual May Festival was simply not possible.
Over the 2019 Christmas Period the magnificent sum of £3,200 was collected for Tenovus, our community charity for this year. Many thanks go to the two local primary schools, Bryn Deri and Radyr Primary, who between them collected £2,500 at their Christmas Concerts. The rest was collected at the Christmas Lighting Event. It has since been reported that a further £2,400 has also been collected by the Radyr Friends of Tenovus whilst they have been the Festival Charity in 2019-20.
However, all events of the 2020 May Festival then had to be postponed due to COVID-19 and the ensuing lockdowns and restrictions. In August 2020 the RMA handed over £3,174, the total we were holding on the charities behalf from the year’s efforts. Whilst we are grateful for everything that was donated this was much lower than our usual total as a good part of our fundraising year had been lost to the circumstances.
September 2020 saw a mini Autumn Festival held through a combination of online events and outside events/competitions that can be run over the course of the day with appropriate social distancing.
The Autumn mini-festival ran for just over a week from Friday 18 September 2020. Some familiar events re-formed including the much loved Tenovus Quiz, conratulations Team Kiff. There were also some new socially distanced events such as our Activity Trail encouraging families to walk around Radyr & Morganstown and discover more of our Local History.
By the end of the Autumn Festival a further £2,500 had been raised by the Radyr Friends of Tenovus.
As Tenovus means so much to local residents, and like many charities the pandemic has limited the ways they can raise funds, we have decided to retain them as our chosen charity for the 2020-21 year.
